Word score
Adds a word up with its premium squares, in five sets of tile values, and shows the working.
It runs entirely in this browser tab: nothing you type is uploaded, and every draw comes from a seed the result prints.
Settings
- Letter values
- The five sets whose values genuinely differ; the rest of the world uses the English one. Choices: the English tiles, the German tiles, the French tiles, the Spanish tiles, the Slovak tiles.
- Premium squares
- One character a letter: d or t for a double or triple letter, D or T for the whole word.
- All seven tiles used
- Not part of the word's own value, which is why it is added after the multipliers.
- The bonus
- A number from 0 to 100.
- Show the whole table
- Every letter and what it is worth, which is the reference half of this tool.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the box above, or open a file.
- Adjust the settings beside it until the result is what you wanted.
- Copy the result, or save it as a file. The result updates as you type.
Questions
- Why does everything have a seed?
- So that a roll can be checked. A draw here is a function of its seed: the same word gives the same result to you, to the person you send the link to, and to the desktop build. Leave it empty and a fresh seed is drawn and shown, so you can pin a roll after the fact.
- Can I use this to deal cards for money?
- No. The generator is reproducible on purpose and invertible from a single output, which is what makes it useful here and useless for that. It is not a cryptographic source of chance and the result says so.
- Why is there no word list in the word finder?
- Because a usable one is larger than this whole application, and a small one is worse than none: it says “not a word” about words. The list comes from you, and the result says how many words it searched so a search that found nothing is visibly a short list.
- Does the chess reader have an engine?
- No: no evaluation, no best move, no opening book. What it does is replay a game on a real board, which is a fact about the rules rather than an opinion about the moves — and it stops at a move that will not play rather than reading past it.
